Gaero

Also known as Repticat

Special armour is used to ride this prickly guard beast. This animal is more often used as a guard than a mount because of its toxic quills nevertheless. Most Gaero riders have to build up a tolerance to Gaero venom to handle the quilled reptile cats safely as either riders or trainers, as such, Gaero keepers are usually the ones who train and ride them as mounts.

Gaero

Information

Gaero (gehr-O) are large, wild animals that are used by those brave and knowledgeable to tame them as Battle Mounts and Guards.  They are a large, scaled, warm blooded, feline-shaped animal, the size of a horse.  They have a mane of venomous quills and quills on the tip of their tail.  Scale color varies according to their location, from brown, to white, to tan, some striped, some banded, others not.  They are intelligent and can learn many vocal and physical commands if raised and properly trained from birth.  They can only be properly tamed or domesticated if hatched from eggs and raised by the trainer and or around other domesticated Gaero.  They are egg laying creatures, their eggs are oblong, quite large, speckled, and the key color of their domor's (parents') scales.  The young are called sylphs.  They take 3 years to mature fully to large lion size, and grow slowly thereafter until they reach the size of horses (at age 26).  They eat large fish and snakes, but are very territorial, and will attack anything they perceive as a threat which enters their territory, or nesting grounds.  They usually live in small groups called troops.  This is one of the reasons they make such excellent guard beasts.  Found around lakes, rivers, seas, and ocean shores. Quasi-immortal.  Armor protects riders and handlers from quills.  Gaeros trained as guards and mounts sell anywhere between 500 and 1,000 gold marks (5,000-10,000 dollars) each.
